    NEW DELHI: The southwest monsoon has further advanced into parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest update.

    Conditions remain favourable for its further advance into remaining parts of central and eastern India, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh over the next 2–3 days, followed by spread into Uttarakhand and adjoining regions thereafter.Heavy rain alert across regionsThe IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall along the west coast, Northeast India, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the week.

    Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on June 27–28.Fairly widespread rainfall is also expected over Kerala, coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and several northeastern states.Northwest India: Rain, storms and dust activityIsolated to scattered rainfall is likely across Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.

    Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40–60 kmph) are also expected in many parts.Dust storm activity is likely over western Rajasthan.Central India: Active monsoon with thunderstormsMadhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are expected to see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall.

    Several areas may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.

    Isolated heavy rainfall spells are likely across the region during different phases of the week.East & Northeast: Very heavy rainfall in hillsEast India will remain under active monsoon conditions with widespread rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha.The IMD has warned of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the peak phase (June 27–28).Northeast India will continue to receive widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy spells over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining states.West India: Active monsoon over Konkan and GujaratKonkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat are expected to remain under active monsoon conditions with fairly widespread rainfall.Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa and parts of Madhya Maharashtra during the week, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds.South Peninsular India: Widespread showersCoastal Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and interior parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are likely to receive fairly widespread rainfall.Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh, along with strong surface winds in some areas.Heatwave conditions persistHeatwave conditions are likely to continue in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and northeast Madhya Pradesh over the next few days, despite increased monsoon activity.Maximum temperatures may remain stable over northwest India initially, rise slightly mid-week, and then ease later as monsoon activity strengthens.
