Upasana Singh revisits ‘Kaun hai ye aadmi’ moment; Recalls Salman Khan’s reaction; 'we never knew what kind of interaction would happen'

Actor Upasana Singh, best known for her role as the witty and outspoken “bua” in Comedy Nights With Kapil, has revisited the story behind her viral dialogue “Kaun Hai Ye Aadmi?”, which went on to become one of television’s most popular catchphrases.The actress spoke to Galatta Plus about how the moment was not planned.

She explained that it emerged naturally during a shoot with superstar Salman Khan and later became a defining part of her comic identity on the show.

She also recalled her earlier professional association with Salman in films like 'God Tussi Great Ho' and 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', along with multiple appearances alongside him on Kapil Sharma’s comedy show.Unscripted moment during shootUpasana explained that interactions with celebrity guests on the show were often unpredictable.

While performers prepared their scripted portions, the responses from guests were always spontaneous.She said, "We have also worked together many times on Kapil Sharma’s show.

The reason ‘Kaun Hai Ye Aadmi? ((who is this man?)’ happened was because Salman and I were shooting together, and at that time, we never knew what the star sitting in front of us was going to say.

We would prepare our portions, like in a play, and know what we had to say.

But we never knew what kind of interaction would happen with the guest star." The actress shared that the dialogue came out instinctively during a light exchange with Salman Khan, turning into an unexpected comedic highlight.Pin-drop silence on setRecounting the reaction on set, Upasana described how the moment briefly created tension among the crew.

With multiple cameras rolling, everyone expected a serious response from the superstar.

She said, "Now imagine, Upasana Singh is saying ‘Kaun Hai Ye Aadmi? (Who is this man?)’ To Salman Khan.

There were 14 cameras on set and pin-drop silence.

Everyone thought Salman would get upset, walk out, and our show would be left incomplete.

Salman ji started laughing so much that he almost fell off the sofa.

He kept laughing for four or five minutes.

After that, every star who came on the show heard me say, ‘Kaun Hai Ye Aadmi?’ Eventually, T-shirts were made with the dialogue on them."Over time, the dialogue became a recurring feature whenever celebrities appeared on Comedy Nights With Kapil.

It soon evolved into a signature punchline associated with Upasana’s character.

The phrase gained widespread popularity, eventually becoming part of pop culture references linked to the show.

Upasana also spoke fondly about her long association with Kapil Sharma and the success of her character over the years.The actress added that she remains open to returning to television in a similar comic role if the opportunity arises.

She also expressed hope of collaborating again with Kapil Sharma should a suitable character be written in the future.
