Age UK has warned that extreme heat poses a “dangerous time for older people”.
Jenny Lippiatt, Age UK's health policy manager, told the Press Association that deaths are “not inevitable” but that the over-85 age group experiences “the highest mortality rates”.
She highlighted that conditions like heatstroke and heat exhaustion can significantly impact older individuals.
Ms Lippiatt advised relatives and neighbours to check on older people, help them stay cool, and assist with errands to avoid exposure to extreme heat.
She added: “I would also say be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and be able to spot those.”
