President Donald Trump criticized major oil companies for not reducing gas prices at the pump, despite lower oil costs following a peace deal with Iran.
Trump claimed customers are being 'gouged' and announced he has instructed the Justice Department to investigate the issue immediately.
This follows Trump's previous assurances that gas prices would 'drop like a rock' once the war in Iran concluded.
The 'war in Iran,' launched in late February, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz had caused a significant surge in gas and energy prices.
Experts warn that despite a recent peace deal and easing prices, it could take months or even years for gas prices to return to pre-war levels due to the 'rockets and feathers' phenomenon.
