U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his attack on Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni, accusing her of political opportunism and disloyalty during the recent Iran conflict. Reiterating his claim that the Italian prime minister repeatedly asked him for photographs, Trump in his Truth Social post claimed she was seeking a boost in popularity as her political standing in Italy weakened. The U.S. president also criticized Meloni's position on Iran, saying she opposed American efforts aimed at preventing Tehran from obtaining or developing a nuclear weapon. The president argued that the United States spends hundreds of billions of dollars helping protect Italy and other NATO countries, while receiving insufficient support in return. According to Italian media, Trump claimed Meloni had “begged” him for a photo-op.
