Jabalpur: Secretary of the tourism department Illaiyaraja T and Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation managing director Dilip Yadav on Tuesday recorded their statements before the judicial commission probing the Bargi dam cruise tragedy that claimed 13 lives earlier this year. The two senior officials appeared before the one-member commission headed by retired high court judge Sanjay Dwivedi at the commission's office in the collectorate premises.
The statement-recording process lasted for more than four-and-a-half hours. The commission was constituted by the state govt to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sinking of a tourism department-operated cruise vessel in the Narmada River at Bargi dam.
Thirteen people, including eight women, four children and a man, lost their lives in the accident.Speaking to reporters after the proceedings, commission chairman Sanjay Dwivedi confirmed that statements of both officials were recorded.
He said the inquiry was being conducted on multiple fronts and that individuals who already deposed before the commission could be summoned again if required.Dwivedi said the commission was also identifying and calling additional persons connected with the incident to assist in the investigation.
He added that with the onset of the monsoon and the expected rise in the dam's water level, the commission had granted permission to the tourism department to shift the wreckage of the cruise vessel and its engine to a safe location. The commission examined operational, administrative and technical aspects related to the incident as part of its ongoing inquiry.
