Tom Cruise is set to star as a chaotic billionaire oil tycoon named Digger Rockwell in the upcoming satirical comedy film, Digger, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
A career retrospective trailer - featuring clips from films including Top Gun, Mission Impossible and Jerry Maguire - released on Tuesday showcased Cruise's transformation into the southern cowboy-like character, who is depicted as causing an ecological disaster with his oil company.
The film follows Digger Rockwell as he embarks on a mission to save humanity from the environmental mess he created, with the trailer ending with the tagline "A comedy of catastrophic proportions".
Cruise shared the trailer on Instagram, expressing his privilege to create characters and stories, and confirmed the film's theatrical release in October.
Digger marks Cruise's first collaboration with Inarritu and his first film since Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning (2025), with the full trailer expected on July 13.
