Thomas Tuchel denies England complacency led to Ghana draw

England played to a goalless draw against Ghana in their second World Cup match, failing to build on their initial 4-2 victory over Croatia.

Manager Thomas Tuchel dismissed suggestions that the draw served as a “wake-up call” for the team, asserting that his players were alert and fully committed.

Tuchel stated there was no overconfidence or complacency, but perhaps some overcautious play, and emphasised the importance of maintaining a balanced perspective, viewing both wins and draws as “reality checks”.

Despite the stalemate, England's four points from two matches mean they are almost guaranteed to progress to the knockout stage of the tournament.

Tuchel praised Ghana as a difficult and physical opponent, and highlighted positives in England's performance, including discipline, caution with the ball, and significant possession.
