Indore: Shyam Borade, 31, was filling air in a tyre at a mechanic’s shop in Suman Nagar on Tuesday afternoon when a routine day turned into a nightmare.

Without warning, a massive fireball shot up from the road.

Amid the screams and confusion, a woman engulfed in flames was hurled nearly 15 metres and crashed into him.“I was putting air in a tyre when suddenly madam fell on me.

There was no loud sound, just a ball of fire,” said Borade, who suffered injuries on his hand and torso.Despite his own burns, Borade rushed to help the woman.

Seeing her clothes on fire, he poured water on her and tried to beat out the flames with his bare hands.

Vehicles parked nearby were also at risk and he joined others in moving them away from the blaze. The woman, identified as travel and lifestyle influencer Girirajkumari Jhala, was passing through the area on her two-wheeler when the leaking gas ignited.

Her scooter, along with a laptop kept inside, was completely destroyed in the fire.

Jhala suffered burns and was rushed to hospital.

Her brother, Yashveer Singh Jhala, said she is undergoing treatment.Subhash Thakur, who owns a hotel nearby, was also at the mechanic’s shop getting air filled in his vehicle when the blaze erupted.Witnesses said panic spread instantly as people scrambled for safety.

Even as locals rushed to rescue the injured and drag them away from the flames, the driver of the borewell digging vehicle allegedly sped away from the spot with the machine.Fire brigade personnel and police teams soon arrived and brought the situation under control.Avantika Gas Limited marketing head Manaish Verma said that there is a mandatory ‘Call Before Dig’ protocol which requires agencies and contractors to inform the company before undertaking any excavation work.“The government is encouraging people to switch to piped natural gas and our network is expanding across the city.

There is always a possibility of a PNG line in any area.

The damaged main header line feeds several areas, including Mahalaxmi Nagar, Nipania and up to Phoenix Mall.

Agencies should mandatorily seek technical clearance from us before digging,” Verma said. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Indore | Silver Rate in Indore | Bank Holidays in Indore | Public Holidays in Indore | Petrol Price in Indore | Diesel Price in Indore | CNG Price in Indore | LPG Price in IndoreStay updated with the latest Indore news.
