Guwahati: Taking advantage of the presence of lakhs of devotees and thousands of sadhus during the Ambubachi Mela, many posing as sadhus and babas have been roaming on Nilachal Hill, where the Kamakhya temple is located.
Temple authorities have barred such sadhus from staying in the Juna Akhada on the temple premises and appealed to the devotees to remain alert to such imposters. Many people dressed in red dhotis and wearing tilaks and ashes on their bodies were spotted at various locations on Nilachal Hill.A doloi of the Kamakhya temple authority, on condition of anonymity, said that not every person who claims to be a sadhu or aghori is allowed to enter the temple premises. “There are certain sadhus who have been given the authority to choose whom to allow entering the premises.
There are over 1,000 naga babas and aghoris in the Juna Akhada within the temple premises.
They reached the Akhada two days ahead of the Ambubachi Mela.
The temple authority has records of all those,” the doloi said.Juna Akhada is the largest and one of the oldest monastic orders of Hindu sadhus in India.
Primarily based in Shaivism, it is most famous for its hundreds of thousands of Naga Babas (warrior ascetics) who famously participate in the Kumbh Mela’s Shahi Snan.Meanwhile, the doloi added that the temple authority is continuously in touch with the district administration, and it will immediately inform the police if any person posing as a sadhu is found doing something illegal within the temple premises. “However, no such incident has happened so far,” the doloi added. These individuals posing as sadhus offer tilak to barefoot devotees in exchange for money.Police are keeping an eye on the activities of the general public as well as sadhus or devotees on Nilachal Hill. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Guwahati | Silver Rate in Guwahati | Bank Holidays in Guwahati | Public Holidays in Guwahati | Guwahati AQI | Weather in Guwahati | Petrol Price in Guwahati | Diesel Price in Guwahati | CNG Price in Guwahati | LPG Price in GuwahatiStay updated with the latest Guwahati news.
