    Thunderstorms expected, but humid conditions to persist across coastal APVisakhapatnam: Oppressive humidity made life difficult in coastal localities such as Vizag, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Tuni, Guntur, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, and a few other towns in Andhra Pradesh over the last four to five days, with people reporting high levels of discomfort, even though temperatures ranged between 35°C and 39°C.

    Relative humidity peaked at 70% to 85% in the morning and remained at 60% by evening, spelling trouble for citizens and bringing no respite from the sweltering heat.The heat and humidity are unbearable and quite oppressive, and even in the shade, it feels like we are suffocating; the sweating doesn’t stop, and there is no relief unless you stay in an air-conditioned room, said V Ganesh, a native of Vizag city.

    Many elders and children fell sick due to such weather conditions.

    Though few parts of the city experienced rainfall in the second week of June, again hot and humid weather conditions returned and there is no respite from sultry weather, he added.The weathermen said rains have already been delayed in several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) as the El Niño weather phenomenon takes hold.

    Parts of the Rayalaseema districts have been reporting light to moderate rains for the past few days.The weather agency mentioned that isolated parts of the Rayalaseema region in the state may experience heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday while hot and humid weather conditions will continue in some parts of the coastal AP and few parts of the coastal AP and Rayalaseema will experience thunderstorms for the next two days.

    Gusty winds reaching 40-50 Kmph are likely at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema for the next two days.The tribal dominated Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) and Parvathipuram Manyam districts in the state have been experiencing mixed weather conditions with fog in the morning, sunny weather in the afternoon and moderate rainfall activity in the evening hours.
