Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged the Centre to step in and ensure coordination among Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana over the utilisation of the state’s rightful share of water from the Tungabhadra project. He expressed concern that although Telangana is entitled to 15.9 tmc from the dam and river flow, the current inflow has not exceeded 5-6 tmc.At a review meeting held on Tungabhadra, Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS), and other interstate water issues, irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy asserted there would be “no compromise” on Telangana’s share from RDS, which is meant to irrigate 83,987 acres across 75 villages in Jogulamba Gadwal district.Since three states benefit from the Tungabhadra project, the chief minister called for strengthening the Tungabhadra Board under the Central Water Commission to ensure efficient allocation.Officials informed the chief minister that the RDS anicut has become unsafe and requires urgent safety works.
Though Telangana deposited ₹59 crore for modernisation of the Rajolibanda diversion canal, works under packages 1 and 2 have not commenced, while packages 3 and 4 are complete.
The meeting resolved to raise the issue of stalled works during Thursday’s joint discussions.Engineers highlighted that water diversion is hampered by heavy siltation on the Telangana side of RDS.
An expert committee had recommended desilting in 2004, but those measures remain unimplemented. The meeting decided to request the Centre’s immediate action, with Karnataka’s cooperation, since the silted area lies within its territory.
Revanth directed officials to submit a representation to the Centre, compare the 2004 report with current conditions, and prepare a comprehensive assessment. He also instructed exploration of alternatives to maximize water use under the Tungabhadra Lift Irrigation Scheme, ordered expansion of the Mallammakunta Balancing Reservoir to utilise water from Thummilla, and directed speedy execution of associated works.BOXCM Revanth Reddy will travel to Hospet in Karnataka on Thursday to join Union jal shakti minister CR Patil and the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka—N Chandrababu Naidu and DK Shivakumar—in inaugurating 33 newly-installed spillway gates at the Tungabhadra dam.
He will also address a public meeting at Munirabad govt high school. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Hyderabad | Silver Rate in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad | Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Petrol Price in Hyderabad | Diesel Price in Hyderabad | CNG Price in Hyderabad | LPG Price in HyderabadStay updated with the latest Hyderabad news.
