Indore: A spell of rain on Tuesday evening brought much-needed relief from the lingering heat and humidity in Indore, turning the weather pleasant and raising hopes for the imminent arrival of the southwest monsoon.Rain activity continued across the city and surrounding areas as pre-monsoon conditions intensified over the region.Indore received 8.1 mm rainfall by 8:30 pm, while 0.3 mm was recorded till 5:30 pm on Tuesday.
The weather changed suddenly after 7 pm, with showers reported from several parts of the city.
Many residents were forced to halt their commute and seek shelter, while others stepped out to enjoy the cool weather after days of humid conditions.Heavy showers lashed areas including Airport Road, Vijay Nagar, Regal Square and the bypass stretch.The impact of rain was reflected in the mercury level as the day temperature settled at 33.9 degrees Celsius, more than two degrees lower than the previous day.
At 5:30 pm, the city recorded a temperature of 29.8 degrees Celsius, while humidity stood at 63%.
Winds blew at a speed of around 16 kmph.Scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Arun Sharma said, “Southwest monsoon is advancing steadily from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
The monsoon already reached several parts of Chhattisgarh and is expected to enter Madhya Pradesh through the Chhindwara and Balaghat regions within the next two to three days.
It may subsequently progress through Burhanpur and Khandwa before reaching Indore within another two days if current conditions persist.”Showers were also reported from Dhar, Barwani, Khargone and Narmadapuram districts on Tuesday.
However, farmers said more rain is needed before large-scale sowing of kharif crops can begin.The Met has forecast continued rain activity across the Indore division over the next three to four days.
