Rain alert for travellers: Heavy downpours and thunderstorms could affect travel plans in these Indian states

For those who are looking forward to making trips through various states in India, they should be prepared to monitor the changes in weather that might occur in the next few days as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rains, thunderstorms, and showers in different parts of the country.

The latest weather report has also revealed that the southwest monsoon is likely to make further progress in many states including Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh by June 23.This forecast indicates a somewhat mixed situation for travellers, as the movement of the monsoon season can prove to be a blessing in terms of relieving the scorching summers in some areas, but may also affect travel by road, rail and air in some of the tourist destinations which face high levels of rainfall in the season. The northeastern part of the country will probably continue to be one of the rainiest regions in the country in the coming days.

Very heavy rains have been predicted for Assam and Meghalaya, while there would be intense rain activity in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, with some of it being extremely heavy at isolated places.

Such rains can affect road connectivity and movement in the hilly regions. There would also be a lot of rain in some of the most visited tourist destinations in southern and western India.

Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep and parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness heavy rainfall in the coming days, while Konkan and Goa are also predicted to see increased rains starting from June 22 onwards.Thunderstorms along with lightning and strong winds are also expected in several other areas such as Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and eastern parts of the nation.

Wind speed is predicted to be 40-50 kmph in certain areas, with even higher gusts in isolated spots.

Thundersqualls with winds between 50-60 kmph are also likely in Jharkhand and Odisha. The weather report further mentions the presence of heat wave conditions in some areas of Bihar, Telangana, East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha, suggesting that some areas of the nation may still be witnessing extreme temperatures in spite of the onset of monsoons in other parts of the country. The IMD also forecasts weather-related disruptions for the next few days.

Localised flooding and waterlogging in low lying areas, reduced visibility and traffic jams are some of the problems which may be witnessed due to continuous rainfall in some areas.

Landslides and mudslides may occur in some hilly regions due to persistent rainfall.Get the latest lifestyle news and trends.
