    Doha/Tirunelveli: Families of three deceased from Tamil Nadu in the Qatar gas processing facility explosion have sought repatriation of the bodies at the earliest.At least 13 workers, including Indians, were killed and 66 injured in a major explosion at a gas processing facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial city on Sunday night.

    Among those killed were workers from India and Pakistan.

    Three victims from Tamil Nadu have been identified as Babith, 26, from Chidambarapuram; Sajith Kumar, 25, from Sivakamipuram in Panagudi; and Suvin, 24, from Azhagiyanambiapuram, all from Tirunelveli district.Speaking to TOI, Rajakumar, a relative of Babith, said, “Till now, we don’t know when the body would come to India; we are all waiting.”Babith, who went to Qatar seven months ago, was working in the facility along with his elder brother, who is also working at the same company but in a different location.“We got to know he is dead from Bavith’s brother.

    He only confirmed the death at around 8.30 pm on Monday,” he added.“Initially, we thought that he might be injured and not dead.

    But later, he was confirmed dead.

    However, before his death was confirmed, when the news of the fire accident reached us, we mailed the district administration to get him back to India safely in the hope that he might have survived,” said Rajakumar.He also mentioned that the district administration had informed him that the investigation in Qatar is still on, and once the Qatar govt gives clearance, steps will be taken to deport the mortal remains.Tirunelveli district collector Anand Mohan told TOI that the commissionerate of rehabilitation and welfare of non-resident Tamils is the nodal department for this purpose, and they have sent a formal letter to Qatar officials.“Efforts have been taken and fast-tracked to receive the mortal remains,” he added.Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay offered his condolences to the family of the bereaved and announced financial assistance of Rs10 lakh each to their families.In a statement, the CM said the state govt was taking all necessary steps to bring the mortal remains of the victims back to Tamil Nadu at the earliest.He stated that efforts were being coordinated through the ministry of external affairs and the Indian Embassy in Qatar to expedite the repatriation process.The CM also said he had instructed minister for welfare of non-resident Tamils K S Thennarasu to closely monitor the situation and ensure swift action in all matters related to the victims and their families.The Tamil Nadu govt has also issued helpline numbers for people seeking information regarding the accident.
