The southwest monsoon is making its way through India, resulting in much-needed rains in various areas, although it is also posing new difficulties for tourists.
According to the latest report from the Indian Meteorological Department, favourable weather will ensure that the monsoon will move into various areas of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh in the coming four to five days.Tourists heading towards India's mountainous and beach areas can look forward to a week of heavy rains, thunderstorms, heat waves, and strong winds. The maximum precipitation will occur in northeast India.
It is predicted that all states like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will be experiencing widespread rains till June 23 with very heavy rains occurring in certain areas of Assam and Meghalaya.
Other states that might be witnessing extended periods of heavy to very heavy rains would be Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. This information will prove useful for the travellers planning their visits to hill stations such as Cherrapunji, Shillong, Gangtok and other Himalayan locations since heavy rains might cause landslides and other related problems due to waterlogging. As far as south India is concerned, it is predicted that heavy rainfall will persist for almost throughout the week in Kerala and Mahe while some other heavy showers will be experienced in Tamil Nadu too.
Tourists visiting Rajasthan must gear up mentally for any weather surprises because according to the information released by the IMD, there are chances of experiencing thunder squalls with gusty winds of about 80 kmph and dust storms in Rajasthan's western areas on June 18 and 19.Thunderstorms along with lightning and strong winds would be experienced in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and other northwestern parts of India in the coming days.
Although rain showers would provide some respite from extreme heat, weather disturbances might cause disruption to outdoor sightseeing and road travel. While the monsoon process continues, heatwave conditions persist in many parts of central and northern India.
Some areas that are under heatwave alerts include Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. The contrasting weather phenomenon was witnessed in a recent observation where the highest maximum temperature in India was recorded in Prayagraj, which was 45 degrees Celsius on June 17.Travellers have been advised to stay alert about local weather information, particularly if they have planned to visit areas experiencing heavy rain showers in the coming days.
Weather disturbances may lead to waterlogging, traffic jams, poor visibility, and even landslides impacting road connectivity in certain places.Outdoor travellers and road trip enthusiasts looking for a break in nature during the upcoming week may find flexibility in their travel plans vital at this time of the monsoon season.Get the latest lifestyle news and trends.
