Pierre Coffin is taking the Minions into unfamiliar territory with 'Minions and Monsters', a new adventure that draws inspiration from the filmmaker's lifelong fascination with classic monster characters.Speaking about the origins of the film, Coffin revealed that the monster-themed premise stems from a deeply personal childhood experience that helped shape his love of cinema.Pierre Coffin on 'Minions and Monsters'“Monster movies made a strong impression on me when I was young,” Coffin said in a statement. “When I was about 10, I moved to the United States and felt very lost at school.
I remember going into the library, looking for French books and finding a book about Frankenstein makeup.
I did not really know Frankenstein yet, but I was completely drawn to the images.
From there, I started discovering the Mummy, Dracula, Bela Lugosi and all of those classic characters.

According to the director, the film features a range of new Minion characters, each with distinct personalities, roles and vocal identities.

He has also provided the voice for the Minions since their film debut in 2010.
