Brendan Gallagher is considered one of the longest-serving players in Montreal, who has spent his entire NHL career with the Canadiens since debuting during the 2012-13 season.

Despite his leadership role and strong connection with the franchise, the organization is planning to consider a move as it continues to build during the offseason.Reports suggest that the trade rumor involving Gallagher has been floating throughout the offseason.

Previous reports suggested Vancouver's interest in the forward was genuine, while other rumors have linked the Canucks and Canadiens to discussions involving different roster combinations.

However, no deal has been finalized at this stage.Even TSN insider Darren Dreger has recently dropped an interesting update about Brendan Gallagher's future while talking about what the Canadiens are planning.

Dreger stated, “Kent Hughes and Ryan Johnson, the general manager of the Vancouver Canucks, continue to have trade discussions and negotiations on the possibility of moving Gallagher into his hometown of Vancouver.

So they're continuing to work away at that.”Dreger also suggested another possible way through which the Montreals could consider him.

He stated that, “If they can't get a deal that makes sense done, then I do think that the Canadiens simply will trigger the buyout option sooner rather than later.

Then that allows Gallagher and his representative, Jerry Johansson, to explore what the market is as a buyout free agent.”As per Spotrac, Brendan Gallagher signed a $39 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens, with an average annual salary of $6,500,000.

In 2026-27, Gallagher will earn a base salary of $4 million, while carrying a cap hit of $6.5 million.

Reports suggest that his contract will expire at the end of the 2026-27 NHL season.

However, as the NHL offseason progresses, Gallagher's future remains as one of the league's most closely watched storylines.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
