    Mumbai’s Coastal Road (North) project: BMC targets completion of land acquisition in three months

    Mumbai: The BMC planned to complete acquisition of the land for the permanent right of way of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project between Versova and Bhayander within the next three months.The civic body has to acquire about 58 hectares and already acquired about 82 hectares of land for the project.

    The chief minister recently carried out an inspection of the works at various locations as part of the project and reiterated the deadline of Dec 2028 for completion.

    BMC additional commissioner Abhijit Bangar said that, “Work is going on in full swing and land acquisition will be completed in the next three months.”According to civic officials, there are a total of seven packages and an overall 10% to 15% of the work has been completed since the work started in March 2026. “We received mangroves permission only in Jan.

    We have also received environment permissions, high court permissions and working permission from the forest department.

    We hope to get possession of all the land on the alignment of the coastal road.

    We are approaching the courts with regard to private land and are hopeful of getting permissions from the court.

    All Stage 1 permissions have been received,” said a civic official.“Currently, piling work is underway at some locations, while work on piers has commenced at some locations.

    Utility diversion is being carried out near Amarnath Towers at Versova and Mindspace, Malad.

    While tunnel shaft work is going on near Marina Enclave, Malad.

    Work on construction of Temporary Access Bridge (TAB), along with piling work, is underway at Charkop interchange,” the official added.
