Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh cabinet approved welfare, education, agriculture and food security proposals worth nearly Rs 5,960 crore on Tuesday, including continuation of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah and Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana, upgradation of schools, changes in the zero-interest crop loan scheme and funding for the public distribution system.Chaired by chief minister Mohan Yadav, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 1,740.57 crore for continuation of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah and Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana for five years from April 1, 2026.
Under the scheme, eligible poor, destitute and needy families receive financial assistance of Rs 55,000 per beneficiary for marriages conducted through community wedding programmes.
Officials said more than 1.72 lakh beneficiaries received assistance exceeding Rs 989 crore under the scheme between 2021-22 and 2025-26.Also, cabinet approved establishment of a new govt law college in Shujalpur from the 2026-27 academic session.
A total of 17 teaching and non-teaching posts will be created for the institution at an estimated cost of Rs 2.39 crore.The cabinet also gave in-principle approval for upgradation of 225 govt middle schools into high schools and 300 high schools into higher secondary schools over the next three years.
The state govt estimates the move will improve access to education and help reduce dropout rates, particularly in areas where students currently have to travel long distances for higher classes.
An estimated expenditure of Rs 635.24 crore has been approved for the initiative.For farmers, the cabinet approved revised conditions under the state’s zero-interest short-term crop loan scheme for 2026-27.
Instead of separate due dates for kharif and rabi loans, farmers will be provided an annual single credit limit.
Those repaying loans within the prescribed period will continue to receive interest subsidies, enabling crop loans of up to Rs 3 lakh at zero effective interestIn another major decision, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 3,580.07 crore for transportation and commission reimbursement under the targeted public distribution system for the period from April 2026 to March 2031, ensuring continuity of ration distribution to eligible beneficiaries across the state.
