Man shot in cafe in 'dangerous and reckless act'

A man is in hospital after being shot in a cafe.

It happened on Lodge Lane in Liverpool at about 17:00 BST on Friday, Merseyside Police said.

The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, the force added.

Det Ch Insp Alan Nuttall urged any witnesses, or anyone with video footage, to contact police and said: "Firing a gun inside a cafe was a dangerous and reckless act of violence where many more people could have been hurt and led to more tragic circumstances."

He said the investigation was "in the very early stages as we continue to establish what has taken place".

A stop search order is now in place until 18.59 when it will be further reviewed.

It covers Upper Parliament Street, Smithtown Road, Greenbank Road, North Mossley Hill Road, Queens Drive, Aigburth Vale, Carnatic Road, Victoria Road, Ashfield Road, Aigburth Road, Park Road, Park Place and St James Place.
