    Kalaburagi: A special Pocso court in Kalaburagi convicted Anjaneya Bhimashankar Odeyar, 25, of abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 55,000.Odeyar, a resident of Konchur village under Wadi police station in Chittapur taluk, was convicted on the basis of evidence collected by Chittapur CPI Chandrasekhara Thigadi, medical reports, and witness statements.According to the case, the accused took the girl with him after threatening her life, believing he would marry her.

    The investigation revealed that she was raped against her will in a jowar field near Chittapur.

    She was later taken to Bengaluru via the Yadgiri route, where she was kept in illegal detention for several days and sexually assaulted repeatedly.Additional district and sessions court (Special Pocso Court-FTSC-1) judge SL Chavan sentenced Odeyar to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 under Section 6 of the Pocso Act.

    The court also imposed two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under BNS Section 137(2), one year’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 127(3), and a fine with one month’s imprisonment under Section 351(2).

    The total fine imposed was Rs 55,000.The survivor was awarded Rs 5 lakh by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, and the court ordered compensation.Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news.
