    Madurai youth’s organs save four lives

    Madurai: The organs of a 28-year-old youth who died following a road accident were donated, helping save the lives of four people.Muralikannan from Madurai district was riding a two-wheeler when he rammed into the Palanganatham bridge wall around 5.10pm on Monday.

    He suffered a severe head injury and was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai, in an unconscious state.

    Despite treatment by the neurosurgery and intensive care teams, Muralikannan was declared brain dead at 5.15am on Wednesday.

    His parents consented to organ donation, following which the harvesting procedure was carried out at the trauma care centre.His liver was donated to Apollo Hospital, Madurai, while one kidney was transplanted at Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital and the other at Dr Murugan Hospital in Trichy.

    His corneas were donated to GRH, Madurai.After postmortem examination at GRH, the body was handed over to the relatives through the police department.
