Large scale corruption in NEET exams: Jothimani

Trichy: Congress MP S Jothimani on Wednesday alleged that large-scale corruption was taking place in the conduct of NEET and other competitive examinations and demanded the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Addressing reporters in Karur, Jothimani said repeated controversies surrounding NEET, including question paper leaks, re-examinations and changes in examination centres, eroded public confidence in the system.

She termed it unfair to subject students who already performed well in Class XII examinations to another high-stakes test. The MP claimed that coaching, study materials and related expenses for NEET created a massive financial burden on families.

Citing estimates, she said 22 lakh students collectively spent around Rs 1.32 lakh crore on coaching and books, exceeding the Union education budget of Rs 1.04 lakh crore.Jothimani said several students lost their lives due to stress associated with NEET and questioned how economically weaker students could compete on an equal footing.

She further alleged that corruption became institutionalised in competitive examinations and recruitment tests.Referring to protests against examination irregularities across the country, she said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was spearheading the campaign against such malpractices. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Trichy | Silver Rate in Trichy | Bank Holidays in Trichy | Public Holidays in TrichyStay updated with the latest Trichy news.
