KKRTC bus seized over unpaid accident compensation

Gangavathi: A KKRTC bus was seized Tuesday and produced before a court after the transport corporation allegedly failed to pay the balance compensation awarded to the family of a man killed in a road accident nearly eight years ago.Mahantesh, 35, a resident of Herur village, died in a road accident in 2017 while walking along the roadside. The senior civil court in Gangavathi had directed KKRTC to pay a total compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the deceased’s wife, mother and children. In April 2021, the corporation paid Rs 14 lakh.

However, the remaining Rs 16.6 lakh was allegedly not paid. The victim’s wife, Sharadamma, and other family members then moved the Dharwad bench of the high court.

Sources said the HC in June last year again directed the corporation to clear the pending amount, but the order was not complied with. After continued non-payment, the court ordered the seizure of a transport department vehicle.

Acting on the directive, advocate Rudramuniswamy Hiremath, representing the family, along with court staff, seized a bus from the corporation’s Kalaburagi division Tuesday and produced it before the court.Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news.
