Kanyakumari man duped of Rs11.12 lakh in fake dealership scam; 2 held from West Bengal

Kanyakumari: A 28-year-old man from Kanyakumari district was cheated of Rs11.12 lakh by fraudsters who promised him an electric bike dealership through a fake website.Police said Sundar, from Aralvaimozhi, had applied for a dealership on a website resembling an official portal.

Soon after, unidentified people contacted him via WhatsApp, assuring him of securing the dealership in Kanyakumari district.

Citing various charges, including registration fees, no-objection certificate (NOC) charges, and license fees, they persuaded him to transfer money in multiple installments.Realising he had been duped and no one had contacted him thereafter, Sundar lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police.Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under the orders of Kanyakumari district superintendent of police Dr R Stalin.

A special team led by Inspector Parvathi traced the money trail and bank account details.Based on the investigation, a team headed by sub-inspector Ajmal Jenif travelled to West Bengal and arrested Banti Mondal, 28, and Ujjal Karmakar, 30, on a transit warrant.
