Is Miami Stadium air conditioned? Scotland faces Brazil in intense heat and humidity

Brazil and Scotland are set to face off at Miami Stadium in Florida Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET (11 p.m. BST) and the players will endure intense heat and humidity.

Temperatures during kickoff for the World Cup 2026 match are expected to be around 90F (32C), and the heat index will be near 103F (39C). There’s also a chance for a shower or thunderstorm.

Opened in 1987, the open-air stadium, renamed from Hard Rock Stadium for World Cup 2026 games, is located in Miami Gardens and has a capacity of 64,478. It is the home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and does not feature air conditioning.

Miami-Dade County has introduced heat mitigation measures for fans at Miami Stadium, including cooling stations, water trailers, hydration zones and misting areas, but the solutions for players are less robust.

Three-minute hydration breaks have implemented for all games, but Dr. Jason Kostrna, an assistant professor and graduate kinesiology program leader at Florida International University, said they are a "band-aid solution" if athletes don’t adequately hydrate in the days leading up to a match.
