The Texas Super Kings (TSK) have suffered a major setback in their MLC 2026 campaign, with South African pacer Nandre Burger ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a recurrence of a lower-back injury.

TSK confirmed that Burger will return home immediately to undergo an extended period of rest and rehabilitation after medical assessments revealed a pre-existing lumbar stress reaction.Burger featured in only two matches for the Texas Super Kings this season.

The left-arm fast bowler completed his full quota of four overs in TSK's tournament opener against the Seattle Orcas before bowling just two overs against the San Francisco Unicorns, where he experienced discomfort and was unable to continue.

Subsequent scans confirmed the recurrence of the lumbar spine issue, forcing the franchise to rule him out for the rest of the competition.

The injury marks another frustrating setback for the 30-year-old speedster, who has battled the same issue in the past.

Burger previously missed South Africa's international assignments against Ireland and Bangladesh in late 2024, as well as the following SA20 season, due to a lumbar stress reaction in his back.TSK has announced South African cricketer Dian Forrester as the replacement for Nandre Burger.

TSK looking to revive campaignBurger's absence comes at a challenging time for the Texas Super Kings, who have endured a difficult start to their MLC 2026 campaign.

Despite a record-breaking century from captain Faf du Plessis in the opening match, TSK have managed just one win from their first three games.

Consecutive defeats have left them fifth on the points table with two points and a net run rate of -0.563.

With the tournament now shifting to the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in California, TSK will be eager to regain momentum and climb the standings.Upcoming Texas Super Kings FixturesJune 24 – vs San Francisco Unicorns (Match 8)June 26 – vs MI New York (Match 10)June 27 – vs Washington Freedom (Match 13)Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
