Noida: Noida has emerged as one of UP’s leading districts in reducing road accident deaths under the “zero fatality district” project, officers said.

Launched in Nov 2025, the initiative is being implemented in line with directives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, UP govt, Director General of Police and Safe Life Foundation. The programme combines stricter traffic enforcement, engineering improvements and public awareness campaigns to improve road safety.

Authorities initially targeted nine police station areas and two high-risk road corridors, which together accounted for nearly 54% of all road accident fatalities in the district.

The first corridor included areas under sectors 39, 58, 113 and Bisrakh police stations.

The second corridor included areas under Badalpur, Surajpur, Dadri, Dankaur and Jewar police stations.Data from Jan to May 2026 shows there has been a 35% reduction in accident cases compared to the same period last year.

The numbers dropped from 105 to 68.

Subsequently, fatalities dropped by 28% from 50 to 36, and injuries fell by 45% from 79 to 43 in the identified areas. In Nov last year, traffic teams had beendeployed at these accident-prone zones and equipped with modern traffic enforcement tools, including speed laser guns, breath analysers, body-worn cameras and reflective safety equipment.

These teams simultaneously monitored violations, investigated accident causes and conducted awareness drives among road users.Between Nov 2025 and May 2026, traffic cops issued a total of 86,902 traffic challans.

The major violations included 13,798 cases of overspeeding, 4,109 cases of drunk driving, 16,682 incidents of wrong-side driving and 14,418 cases involving riders without helmets.

Officers believe that consistent enforcement has played a significant role in improving road discipline and reducing accidents.Extensive engineering and corrective measures had also beenundertaken since Nov 2024 at identified black spots and accident-prone locations.

Traffic cops coordinated with Noida and Greater Noida Authorities, Public Works Department and National Highways Authority of India to implement structural improvements.

These included closing illegal road cuts, constructing dividers, installing rumble strips, improving road markings, erecting signboards, fixing reflectors, repairing roads and filling potholes. The upgrades resulted in visible changes within months.

Compared to Nov 2024, road accidents in Nov 2025 declined by 27%, from 22 to 16; fatalities fell by 25%, from 12 to 9; and injuries decreased by 30%, from 13 to 9.

In the following month, there was a bigger decline with accidents decreasing by 40% from 50 in Dec 2024 to 30 in Dec 2025, deaths by 34% from 26 to 17, and injuries by 55% from 40 to 18.Due to these achievements, five of the nine initially identified police station areas were removed from the project’s high-priority category.

At present, focused action continues in the remaining four police station jurisdictions—Bisrakh, Badalpur, Dadri and Dankaur. The police commissionerate has also addressed traffic congestion under the ‘reducing traffic congestion’ plan.

Seven of the 15 previously identified congestion points have been eliminated through corrective measures, while work continues at the remaining locations.

Route marshals have been deployed on major roads to coordinate with hospitals, ambulance services, fuel stations and emergency responders, ensuring quicker assistance during the critical ‘golden hour’ after accidents. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Noida | Silver Rate in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida | Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Petrol Price in Noida | Diesel Price in Noida | CNG Price in Noida | LPG Price in NoidaStay updated with the latest Noida news.
