India has strongly rejected remarks made by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari regarding alleged threats to historic Muslim religious sites in the country. The Ministry of External Affairs termed the comments unwarranted and asserted that Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on matters internal to India.MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the remarks were particularly absurd given Pakistan's own human rights record and its treatment of minorities. He accused Islamabad of attempting to divert attention from its domestic challenges through politically motivated statements targeting India. The response follows Zardari's expression of concern over religious sites in India, claims that New Delhi dismissed as unverified and baseless. India maintained that issues related to its laws, governance and religious affairs remain purely domestic matters. The latest exchange adds to a series of diplomatic confrontations between the two neighbours over minority rights, religious freedoms and internal policy matters.
