IMC issues notices to 47 over building permit fraud

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) issued notices to 47 property owners and licenced consultants for manipulating building permissions to evade proper fees and reduce future property tax liabilities.The action was taken after a detailed scrutiny of 300 building permissions approved online over the last two months.

The discrepancies emerged within the civic body’s automated ‘deemed approval’ system, which was introduced to sanction building plans for smaller structures within 24 hours without manual intervention from municipal officials.

Taking advantage of the lack of manual oversight, applicants allegedly modified data to pay Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 less than the mandated building permission fees.The corporation additional commissioner Prakhar Singh said, “During investigation, three types of structural irregularities were found, including securing new building permissions on plots where construction already exists by falsely claiming them as vacant land, amalgamating two separate plots for unauthorised joint construction, and under-reporting of actual construction area relative to the physical plot size to lower calculation rates.”Officials noted that this is not the first instance of system manipulation.
