I never boxed myself into one role: Geeta Kapur

For many viewers, Geeta Kapur is the face of dance reality shows.

But the choreographer says she never planned to become a television judge.

Every step of her career, she says, has been about taking the work that came her way and giving it her best.“I have never bound myself into thinking I want to do only this.

I never had that luxury,” says Geeta, who is back on the judging panel of India’s Best Dancer. “Earlier it was karna hai toh karna hai, kaam hai toh karna hai.

Even today, I just want to keep working as long as I can.

I hope I’m doing a good job, I hope people keep loving me, and I hope they keep calling me back,” she shares. This season, she is joined by Terence Lewis, Karisma Kapoor and Jaaved Jaafrey.

Geeta says the mix of personalities and experience has made the panel more engaging than ever. “We have a great camaraderie.

The panel has become so big that Terence sits so far away, I feel like I need to make a trunk call and ask, ‘Terence, can you hear me?’”She is especially happy to be working with Jaaved Jaaferi again after more than three decades. “We used to dance together 35 years ago, so we have so much to catch up on,” she says.

According to Geeta, each judge brings a unique perspective to the table. “Terence and I tend to focus more on the technical aspects of dance.

Karisma looks at the entertainment value, while Jaaved comes from the perspective of an actor, director and comedian.

He sees dance on a much broader spectrum, which makes our discussions very interesting.”Despite spending years mentoring contestants on television, Geeta says she still considers herself a student. “Dance is evolving every day, so I prepare myself to learn something new each day,” she says signing off.
