After convincing wins over Pakistan and the Netherlands, India face their first major test of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup when they take on recent nemesis South Africa in a Group 1 clash in Manchester on Sunday.

South Africa have endured a shaky start to their campaign.

The 2024 finalists opened with a 65-run defeat to Australia before scraping past Pakistan by two wickets in a lowscoring encounter.

In both matches, their batters struggled for consistency. However, on a surface expected to assist spin, South Africa will draw confidence from their recent success against India.

In April, Laura Wolvaardt’s side secured a dominant 4-1 series victory at home over the reigning ODI world champions.

The bowling attack will be spearheaded by in-form spinner Deepti Sharma, who has claimed six wickets in two matches.

However, the injury-enforced absence of offspinner Shreyanka Patil, ruled out of the tournament with an ankle injury, leaves a gap India will need to address quickly.

India will also be wary of South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt.

Although she has made a quiet start to this World Cup, she was prolific during the home series against India.Aus win; Bangladesh stun PakAustralia earned a third convincing win in the tournament when they beat the Netherlands by 98 runs on Saturday.
