Gulf war-led suspension ends, Indigo to resume Madurai-Abu Dhabi flights from Aug 14

Madurai: IndiGo will resume direct flights between Madurai and Abu Dhabi from Aug 14, nearly six months after services were suspended due to tensions in the Gulf region, restoring a key air link for workers and businesses in southern Tamil Nadu. The airline said the service would operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Flights from Abu Dhabi will arrive in Madurai at 1.50pm and depart for Abu Dhabi at 2.50pm.IndiGo had launched the direct Madurai-Abu Dhabi route on June 13, 2025, making Madurai its 16th Indian city with direct connectivity to the United Arab Emirates capital.

The service was suspended around the end of February amid concerns linked to regional conflict and airspace disruptions.“The suspension affected passengers across Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli districts while also reducing international traffic and revenue at the airport,” said an Airports Authority of India (AAI) official.“The direct flight used to get me to Abu Dhabi in about four hours.

After the suspension, I had to travel through Bengaluru or Hyderabad, and the journey often took seven to 10 hours including layovers,” said S Mohamed Ismail, a Madurai-based construction materials trader who travels to Abu Dhabi at least once a month.“On some occasions, I spent nearly twice the airfare because of last-minute bookings through other cities.

The direct service saves both time and money,” he said.Current fares on connecting services from Madurai to Abu Dhabi range from about Rs16,000 to Rs20,000, while direct flights launched last year with introductory fares of around Rs12,000.Airport officials said an announcement on the resumption of the Madurai-Dubai service was expected shortly. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Madurai | Silver Rate in Madurai | Bank Holidays in Madurai | Public Holidays in Madurai | Madurai AQI | Weather in Madurai | Petrol Price in Madurai | Diesel Price in Madurai | CNG Price in Madurai | LPG Price in MaduraiStay updated with the latest Madurai news.
