Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said he has directed the directorate of higher education to extend govt scholarships to students from SC, ST and economically weaker sections who secure admission to private universities in the state.
He also said state govt’s next focus is to create a 100% skilled workforce in Goa.Sawant said there is significant potential for wellness tourism and urged students to choose courses that would help secure their future.
He said Goa offers more employment opportunities than many other parts of the country, attributing this to the state’s development over the past eight years.“We have created new roads, airports and rail, all futuristic infrastructure.
State govt has created infrastructure keeping in mind the next 50 years, and there are huge opportunities.
While creating infrastructure, we have invited global companies to invest in the state in green industries, as well as the blue and white revolution.
Goans do not want to work as labour.
I want Goans to get good opportunities in the state,” he said.Sawant said the tourism and logistics sectors are performing strongly and that Goans should take pride in the state’s 100% literacy rate.He said the establishment of private universities has enabled students to pursue higher education without having to leave Goa.
Recalling the introduction of legislation to allow private universities, Sawant said the move had faced opposition, but govt had explained the need for such institutions during the debate on the bills.“Private universities can introduce new studies, advancement, innovation, and new curriculum.
We need good campuses in Goa.
Grant-in-aid colleges have restrictions.
Earlier, a lot of students had to move out of state for higher education.
I too did my graduation outside the state.
During that time, there was no college in Goa for BAMS, and I understand the problem faced by students who go out of the state for studies,” he said. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Goa | Silver Rate in Goa | Bank Holidays in Goa | Public Holidays in Goa | Petrol Price in GoaStay updated with the latest Goa news.
