Nashik: The state govt has officially included repairs of Godavari Right Bank Canal, Pravara Right and Left Bank Canal and construction of the distribution network of Bhojapur Medium project into the critical first phase of the Maharashtra Irrigation Improvement Programme.For the swift execution of this extensive initiative, the necessary funds will be actively sought from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).During a recent high-level review meeting held in Mumbai — chaired by the water resources department (WRD) minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil — the overall framework of the programme was discussed in detail.The state govt has already given administrative sanction to developmental works worth Rs5,026 crore.
This substantial budget includes the immediate construction of essential canals and a robust distribution network for 155 irrigation projects, ensuring these systems start delivering tangible benefits to the last man in rural communities.“The meeting discussed at length the current operational status of the works, specific targets and the past achievements, besides mapping out what has to be done for finishing the long-pending projects.
It has been firmly decided to seek the financial help of Nabard for the construction of these infrastructure works,” a senior WRD official said.Another important policy decision taken during the review session was the strategic inclusion of several major infrastructure works from the second phase into the ongoing first phase.“The govt has decided to shift the repairs work of Godavari Right Bank Canal Project from Phase 2 to Phase 1 for immediate execution.
