Dindigul: Four men were arrested by the Dindigul district police on Monday for targeting victims through a dating app and robbing them in isolated areas.According to police, the accused contacted individuals via the mobile application Grindr, which serves the LGBTQ community, and lured them to desolate locations before robbing them of valuables.In one instance, a man from Mettupatti was asked to meet near the Muthalagupatti junction on the Palani-Madurai road around 11.45pm on June 18.
The gang allegedly assaulted him and fled with his two-wheeler worth Rs2 lakh and three mobile phones.In a similar incident on June 20, another man from Dindigul was reportedly in contact with the accused via the app, and under the pretext of having a meetup, the accused called the victim to a location, and the victim was robbed of two mobile phones.Based on complaints, Dindigul Taluk police registered two cases and launched a probe.
Acting on the directions of superintendent of police S Jayakumar, a special team led by sub-inspector Arun Prasad tracked down and arrested the four accused — Naveenraja, 30; Kishore Velankanni, 26; Charles, alias Thulluvettiyan, 35; and Nova, 27.All stolen items were recovered and seized.
