Indore: Food safety department team conducted inspections of canteens and food storage facilities at several schools and educational institutions across the city on Wednesday and closed kitchens of two institutes over food safety issues.
The team also collected 31 food samples from various institutes for laboratory analysis.At Guru Harikishan Public School (Khandwa Road), officials found that the canteen was operating without a valid licence.
Expired food items allegedly discovered on the premises were immediately destroyed.
The kitchen was utilizing un-tested tanker water for cooking, and the RO purification tank was unhygienic.Authorities ordered immediate shutdown of the kitchen till all rectifications were made and a valid licence was obtained.The inspection team also ordered immediate suspension of kitchen operations at Acropolis Institute due to severe sanitation deficiencies and improper storage conditions that violated standard food safety guidelines.
The management was instructed to overhaul its hygiene protocols and ensure medical fitness of food handlers.At New Digamber Public School, the officials discovered expired food stocks stored alongside fresh ingredients.
The institution was directed to segregate its inventory systematically.
Four samples, including prepared vegetables, fennel seeds, savory snacks, and cookies, were collected.The team checked pest control logs and medical fitness certificates of the kitchen staff at Advance Academy, issuing instructions to address gaps.
A total of 11 food samples were collected, including mava, pulses, flour, prepared flatbreads, curries, and spices.Cooking and storage systems were also inspected at Delhi Public School (Rau) and Agrasen Vidyalaya.
Six samples (including paneer, rice, and chickpeas) were taken from DPS Rau, while four samples (rice, kidney beans, flour, and gram flour) were collected from Agrasen Vidyalaya.All 31 food samples have been dispatched to State Food Testing Laboratory.Collector Shivam Verma said that legal proceedings under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will be initiated once the lab reports were received.
