    NEW DELHI: France coach Didier Deschamps will miss his team's final FIFA World Cup group-stage match against Norway after the death of his mother.The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed on Tuesday that Deschamps learned of his mother's passing earlier in the day and will return to France to attend her funeral.In a statement, the federation expressed its support for the 57-year-old coach during the difficult period."At this incredibly painful time, we wish the head coach great strength and assure him of everyone's support," the FFF said.Assistant coach Guy Stéphan will take charge of the French team on an interim basis, including for Friday's Group D clash against Norway in Massachusetts.

    The federation did not specify when Deschamps is expected to return to the United States.The news comes during what is already set to be Deschamps' final tournament as France coach.

    Earlier this year, he announced that he would step down after the World Cup, bringing an end to a 14-year spell in charge of the national team.A former France captain, Deschamps has enjoyed one of the most successful coaching tenures in international football.

    He guided France to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title and led them to another final in 2022.France have made a flying start to the 2026 World Cup, winning both of their group matches so far.

    Les Bleus defeated Senegal 3-1 in their opener before beating Iraq 3-0 to secure qualification for the knockout stage.Norway have also won their first two matches, making Friday's encounter a battle for top spot in the group.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
