Mandya: In a heartbreaking tragedy, five members of the same family lost their lives after being swept away in the Cauvery River while attempting to take photographs at the popular tourist spot of Muthathi, Malavalli taluk, Wednesday evening.
The incident took place near the riverbank after the family from Channapatna in Bengaluru South district visited the Muttetharaya temple in Muthathi.According to preliminary reports, some of the family members entered the river to take photographs when they reportedly lost balance and were caught in the strong currents.
In a desperate attempt to rescue one another, the others too were dragged into the water.
The deceased were identified as Chaitra, 20, Shwetha, 38, Vijayamma, 50, Priyanka, 28, and Mahesh.
The first to enter the water was Vijayamma.
After Vijayamma was seen drowning, the rest followed.
