A new book is shedding light on an alleged private clash between the two leaders, claiming what could be one of the most serious rifts in their long-standing political relationship. According to Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, Trump erupted during a September 2025 phone call over Netanyahu’s reluctance to accept a U.S.-brokered Gaza ceasefire plan. The book claims Trump told Netanyahu that “everybody hates you” and warned that continued opposition to the deal could lead to a “divorce” between the United States and Israel. The conversation reportedly took place in the presence of Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
