Britain’s electricity grid operator, Neso, issued an industry warning about a potential squeeze on power supply on Wednesday evening.
This rare summer alert is due to extreme heat affecting the UK and the continent, combined with low wind, putting pressure on the system.
Neso issued an 'electricity margin notice', a message to the market requesting more capacity to be made available.
The notice is in effect between 7pm and 10pm on Wednesday.
Neso clarified that this is a 'routine tool' and does not indicate that electricity supply is at risk.
