An elderly man has died in hospital after being found hanging in his Hong Kong flat, where his wife was discovered with her head covered and declared dead shortly afterwards.
The couple’s daughter visited their flat in Fung King House at Lai King Estate in Kwai Chung on Friday and found her 70-year-old stepfather hanging by several phone charging cables in the living room.
She found her 78-year-old mother on a bed with her head covered.
The couple were rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung, but the mother was certified dead the same day.
The stepfather remained in a critical condition until succumbing to his injuries at 4.08pm on Wednesday.
Police classified the cases as death on arrival at hospital and attempted suicide.
The couple, who had long lived together in the flat, reportedly both suffered from health problems.
The wife rarely went out, while their daughter, although not living with them, visited almost daily to care for her parents, according to media reports.
