Eight abandoned vehicles set for auction in Margao, Fatorda

Margao: South Goa collector Egna Cleetus has ordered the disposal of eight unclaimed and abandoned vehicles lying across Margao and Fatorda.

The Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation (GSWMC) has been directed to conduct the auction and remit the proceeds to state govt’s revenue account.The order, issued under Sections 25, 26 and 27 of the Police Act, 1861, follows the expiry of the mandatory six-month proclamation period during which vehicle owners could stake their claims.

Officials said no claims or objections were received in respect of the eight vehicles.Of the vehicles slated for disposal, six fall under the Margao traffic cell and two under the Fatorda traffic cell.

The Margao list comprises four four-wheelers, a rickshaw and a goods carrier abandoned at various locations in the town, while both vehicles in Fatorda are four-wheelers.The order states that proclamation notices under Section 26 of the Police Act were issued between 2020 and 2025 for vehicles abandoned within the jurisdictions of the traffic cells in Margao, Fatorda, Vasco and Ponda.

While 18 vehicles were initially reported under the Margao proclamation, only six were verified as remaining unclaimed after the stipulated period.
