Chatra: A 28-year-old driver died after his right arm was severed in a head-on collision between two trucks at Sanghri valley in Chatra district on Saturday.
The accident triggered a traffic disruption for several hours.
The deceased was identified as Sunil Kumar Yadav, a resident of Gauswan village in Bihar’s Gaya district.Family members said that Yadav was transporting coal from the Magadh project area in Tandwa to Uttar Pradesh.
As his truck reached near Sanghri valley, a speeding truck from the opposite direction rammed into his vehicle.The impact overturned Sunil’s truck, trapping him inside the mangled cabin.
His right arm was severed in the crash and he also suffered grievous head injuries.
The driver of the other truck fled from the spot after the accident.Sunil’s younger brother, Vikas Yadav, said that locals and police rescued him from the wreckage and rushed him to Chatra Sadar Hospital. “Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to Magadh Medical College, Gaya, but he died on the way,” he added.The accident left vehicles stranded on both sides of Sanghri valley, severely affecting traffic movement.
Sadar police reached the spot and deployed a crane to remove the damaged trucks from the road.OC of Sadar police station, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, said, “Vehicular movement resumed after the wreckage was cleared.
After the postmortem examination, body was handed over to his family.
