Country’s first Assistive Technology Mart launched

Kanpur: The country’s first ‘AT (Assistive Technology Mart’ has been launched at Benajhabar Road near Motijheel Metro station here on Saturday.Chief guest Vijayendra Pandian, divisional commissioner, inaugurated the mart and hoped this unique mart is set to make life significantly easier and more convenient for persons with disabilities and the elderly.This special mart has been launched to address the shortage of assistive devices under the ‘Divyang Sahara Yojana’.

With its opening, those in need will no longer have to run from pillar to post to obtain modern, technologically advanced prosthetic limbs and other equipment.This AT Mart has been designed based on a ‘three-in-one’ model, akin to a large showroom.

Visitors will find three major facilities under one roof: First, they can view the modern appliances they need firsthand, second, they can understand how these devices operate by consulting with on-site experts and third, they can try the products themselves and make a purchase at the fixed price once satisfied.This mart also offers a comprehensive guarantee regarding servicing.

It is often observed that while people with disabilities do purchase expensive assistive devices, finding spare parts and getting them repaired when they malfunction becomes a major challenge.

This AT Mart has made complete arrangements for repairs alongside sales, ensuring that any issues with wheelchairs, hearing aids, or prosthetic limbs can be promptly fixed.At this centre electric wheelchairs, modern tricycles, walkers, and crutches to aid the mobility of persons with disabilities—along with digital hearing aids, spectacles, and high-tech prosthetic limbs—will always be available.Following its success in Kanpur, this scheme, developed by ALIMCO’ , a Miniratna undertaking of the Government of India, will now be expanded across the country.
