RAIPUR: Eleven juveniles lodged at a govt-run observation home in Ambikapur escaped on Tuesday night after taking advantage of heavy rain, thunder and a power outage, leading to a massive search operation across Surguja district. The juveniles, all in conflict with law and facing charges in separate cases ranging from theft and robbery to rape and murder, allegedly removed a window grille from their barrack and scaled the boundary wall of the facility before fleeing. The incident occurred around 7.30 pm at the observation home in Gandhi Nagar.
According to officials, the inmates had finished dinner and returned to their rooms, while some were watching television when heavy rain accompanied by lightning caused a power failure.House caretaker Manish Kushwaha said the escapees appeared to have planned the breakout and exploited the darkness created by the outage."Some juveniles removed a window and escaped from the premises.
Police and senior officials have been informed and efforts are on to trace them," he said.He said the escapees belong to Surguja, Surajpur and Koriya districts and some of them were admitted recently, while others had been staying there for a longer period. The incident has raised serious questions over security arrangements at the observation home.
Despite two security personnel being posted at the main gate, the juveniles managed to break out without being detected.
Officials said the escape was discovered nearly an hour later, following which police were alerted.Police immediately set up checkpoints across Ambikapur and launched searches at railway stations, bus stands and other locations.
Teams from the police and observation home administration have also been dispatched to the juveniles' native districts, while family members were being contacted. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Raipur | Silver Rate in Raipur | Bank Holidays in Raipur | Public Holidays in Raipur | Raipur AQI | Weather in Raipur | Petrol Price in Raipur | Diesel Price in Raipur | CNG Price in Raipur | LPG Price in RaipurStay updated with the latest Raipur news.
