CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil has addressed ongoing scrutiny regarding the network's rebranding under Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss and Paramount CEO David Ellison in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Dokoupil maintains his editorial independence, stating he can challenge Weiss's ideas and that Ellison, who recently hosted President Donald Trump, has never interfered with his show.

Critics accuse Dokoupil of on-air bias, citing incidents such as Weiss rewriting his script, booking conservative commentator Douglas Murray, and a lighthearted segment on Marco Rubio.

Some current and former CBS News staffers have criticized Dokoupil, calling him a “useful idiot” in a Vanity Fair article, though a network spokesperson defended him.

Dokoupil acknowledges a broader “trust problem” in journalism, comparing it to the yogurt industry, as CBS Evening News ratings continue to trail competitors despite a recent slight increase.
