Braving threats from pet dogs, police in Thrissur save woman trying to end life

Thrissur: Braving the threat of two aggressive pet dogs, police on Sunday rescued a woman who was reportedly attempting to die by suicide at her home in Viyyur, Thrissur.The woman had apparently kept her dogs untied inside the compound of her house.

On Sunday evening, the woman posted a WhatsApp status alluding to a suicide attempt, which was noticed by someone.

Viyyur police were duly informed regarding the same along with the location of the woman’s house.Sub inspector (SI) Sreejin, who was informed of the incident, reached the spot along with civil police officers Bhadran, Tomy and Sajith.On finding the gate of the house shut, they tried to open it.

However, the woman’s pet dogs barked and tried to pounce at them, in a bid from stopping them from entering.But in a spontaneous move, the SI Sreejin ran in one direction to distract the dogs.

As the dogs tried to chase him, civil police officer Bhadran jumped the compound wall through the backside.But as he reached the entrance of the house, he found the door locked from inside.

When he tried to kick open the door, the dogs came rushing towards him.

However, he managed to sneak inside the house before the dogs could reach him.When he searched the house, he found the woman lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

Bhadran then alerted the SI.

By then, the fire brigade officials and dog squad also reached the spot.Meanwhile, Bhadran shifted the woman from the house while the SI kept distracting the pet dogs.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.

According to police, she took the extreme step over mental stress.
