Bhubaneswar: Rains have spread fears of a dengue outbreak, prompting Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to roll out an action plan to curb mosquito breeding and sensitise communities across the city. The civic body has asked apartment societies, resident welfare associations (RWAs) and civil society groups to join awareness drives and source reduction measures. “We have invited all stakeholders in the society for sensitisation.
While we at BMC have chalked out plans for surveillance and source destruction, we need community help to reduce spread of dengue virus,” said BMC deputy commissioner (sanitation) N Ganesh Babu.BMC officials said household surveys are being carried out in domestic and peri-domestic areas to identify breeding sources.
These would be eliminated by trained dengue volunteers, who will also run community sensitisation campaigns.
For wider outreach, BMC is using radio jingles, door-to-door waste collection vehicles, social media and FM radio talks.A ‘dry day’ will be observed in every ward to encourage residents to clear stagnant water from their premises.
Rallies will also be held in each ward under corporators, health workers, ASHA staff, swachha sathis, RWAs and representatives from all departments. The BMC has instructed Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco), MSME and estate departments to ensure source reduction on their premises. “Commercial establishments will be required to submit undertakings regarding detection and reporting of dengue cases.
Market associations and RWAs have been urged to take proactive steps in cleaning their surroundings and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds,” Babu added.Officials said Patia, Saheed Nagar, Salia Sahi, Nayapalli, IRC Village, Niladrivihar and Prasanti Vihar have been dengue hotspots in the past and would get special attention.BMC officials said they are yet to start carrying out chemical fogging. “We will take up fogging very soon as the weather is expected to normalise in a day or two.
All mosquito breeding sources will be destroyed.
We will write to industrial clusters in the city, various offices, and agencies maintaining parks to take strict measures to demolish mosquito breeding sources.
Industrial premises, parks, and vacant spaces are mostly responsible for turning into mosquito dens during monsoon till Oct,” said a BMC officer. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Bhubaneswar | Silver Rate in Bhubaneswar | Bank Holidays in Bhubaneswar | Public Holidays in Bhubaneswar | Petrol Price in Bhubaneswar | Diesel Price in Bhubaneswar | CNG Price in Bhubaneswar | LPG Price in BhubaneswarStay updated with the latest Bhubaneswar news.
